AID+was designed for athletes performing high-intensity physical activity. The anti-catabolic, anti-oxidant and energy-enhancing properties make this product particularly unique.

AID+ contains alpha lipoic acid, choline, calcium pyruvate, N-acetylcysteine, choline bitartrate, vitamin C and vitamin B1.

Alpha lipoic acid (or lipoic acid, ALA) is a fatty acid found naturally inside cells. It is produced by the human body in small amount, thus making supplementation necessary. The lipoic acid has an anti-catabolic function and counteracts the glycation that occurs when parts of glucose molecules react with the protein tissues and damage them. It is also involved in the metabolism of glucose and fat to produce energy. In addition, it improves the utilization of carbohydrates and stabilizes blood sugar, which is essential for maintaining lean body mass and eventually losing weight. Usually glucose is converted into fat if it is not used by the body. However, lipoic acid is able to convert excess carbohydrates into muscle energy rather than fat. Therefore, with the help of lipoid acid the muscles can increase the conversion of glucose into ATP, providing more energy for physical activity. Its antioxidant function is also particularly effective because it is an active substance in both lipid and aqueous phases that has the ability to regenerate other antioxidants (Vitamin A, C, E, coenzyme Q and glutathione). It also restores and maintains glutathione levels and increases its availability, which is a key function seeing as glutathione is the most powerful intracellular antioxidant.

Choline is a molecule that must be introduced through the diet because the body is only able to partially product it. Choline plays a role in the synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is involved in slowing down the heart rate, the stimulation of salivary gland secretion and the stimulation of gastric and pancreatic secretions. In addition, this neurotransmitter also supports digestive functions. Furthermore, choline is also vital for the integrity and fluidity of cell membranes because it functions as a precursor of the phospholipid phosphatidylcholine. It also contributes to normal cardiovascular function, counteracting the effects of homocysteine, which is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular problems such as atherosclerosis. Choline is involved in metabolism and transport of lipids and cholesterol. According to several studies choline also has hepatoprotective properties as well as anti-inflammatory and cardioprotective properties.

Another component of AID+ is acetylcysteine, or N-acetylcysteine, which is the acetylated form of the amino acid L-Cysteine. A couple of its distinguishing properties include its antioxidant and hepatoprotective functions. By stimulating the production of glutathione, it improves the redox balance in the liver, which is essential for normal liver cell function.

The AID+ formula also contains pyruvate stabilized in the form of calcium pyruvate. The pyruvate is an intermediate product of carbohydrate metabolism, which is converted into acetyl-CoA, and can take two different metabolic pathways. In the first pathway, in the presence of oxygen, it enters the Krebs cycle to produce energy. In the second, in the absence of oxygen, it gets transformed into lactic acid. According to some studies, pyruvate is able to increase resistance during exercise, due to its ability to transport glucose to the muscle. This glucose is then used to support aerobic exercise of extended periods of time, thus saving liver glycogen.

Finally, vitamin C helps to maintain the normal function of the immune system and vitamin B1 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
