ALKA BCAA is composed of L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine in a 2:1:1 ratio, vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, folic acid, and magnesium and potassium in citrate form.
L-Leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine are three of the eight essential amino acids, which are not capable of synthesizing and must therefore be provided through diet or supplements. Because of their branched-chain characteristic, they can be defined as branched chain amino acids or, more commonly, BCAAs. Unlike other types of amino acids that can only be metabolized in the liver, BCAAs can also be metabolized in the muscle; therefore, the muscles can use them as an energy substrate, without having to get them from the muscle proteins.
Widely known for these unique characteristics, they are often used as an ergogenic aid (or performance enhancer) before the activity as an anti-catabolic remedy to reduce damage induced by strenuous physical activity, to reduce the feelings of fatigue from the central nervous system as well as feelings of muscle soreness. It is also used to speed up recovery time and optimize muscle growth.
At the level of the central nervous system, these amino acids also compete with the essential amino acid tryptophan, decreasing the synthesis of serotonin, which contributes to the feeling of fatigue. Because they prevent catabolism of muscle protein and have a direct effect on the feeling of fatigue, they are particularly useful before, during and after physical activity, whether it is aerobic, anaerobic or mixed, or training sessions of short or long duration.
In addition, vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12 and folic acid have been added to maximize the absorption and effectiveness of the amino acids. The vitamin B6 in particular contributes to the normal metabolism of protein and glycogen, and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, while vitamin B1 supports the physiological aspects of energy metabolism.
In addition, this product is enriched with potassium and magnesium in the citrate form. Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance, while potassium supports normal muscle function. Magnesium and potassium in the citrate form are essential in maintaining the body's acid-base balance and lead to improved performance and recovery time. Intense physical activity and exertion lead to the production of lactic acid. This, combined with the acidifying effects of one’s diet, shifts the acid-base balance to be more acidic. Taking citrate supplements after exercise leads to a decrease in lactate concentration that tends to alkalize and then restore the acid-base balance. An acid-base imbalance in an athlete can cause fatigue, low energy, weight gain, arthritis and joint pain.
Add 2 scoops (7 g) in 100 ml of water, juice or other favourite beverage and take once a day, preferably before or after your workout.
