+GLT4+ has been designed to increase athletic performance and muscle recovery.
GLT4 + is a glutamine supplement, containing of Acetyl-L-Glutamine, L-glutamine, Glutamine AKG and vitamin C.
Glutamine is an amino acid that is synthesized by the body on its own from amino acids arginine, ornithine and proline. It is the most abundant amino acid in the human body and represents approximately 2/3 of the amino acids present in the muscles. It is considered a conditionally essential amino acid because although it is synthesized by the body, some situations may require you to increase your dietary intake. At the end of the workout, especially prolonged exercise, the plasma glutamine and muscle glutamine levels fall, and they often require hours to be restored by the endogenous amino acid production. In cases like this, supplementation becomes especially important.
Glutamine stimulates protein synthesis which promotes the increase of muscle mass; it also helps water, amino acids and other substances with an anti-catabolic effect enter into the cells. During the recovery period it replenishes muscle glycogen stores and is able to stimulate the secretion of GH. Glutamine has the ability to combat overtraining syndrome (chronic fatigue, weight loss, loss of appetite, minor infections, nausea, depression) and it helps provide energy to rapidly multiplying cells, such as lymphocytes and macrophages, therefore supporting the immune system. In the central nervous system it is converted to glutamate, which is the most important and most prevalent excitatory neurotransmitter. Equally important is glutamine’s ability to detoxify and regulate blood and urine pH by using a buffering effect.
Glutamine is involved in the formation of glutathione, which is the most powerful antioxidant produced by the body. Glutathione is made up of glycine, cysteine and glutamic acid. In addition to these specific functions, glutamine also plays a role in nitrogen transport between cells, thus supporting the organic and metabolic functions that are accelerated during exercise or pathological stress. Finally, the Glutamine is also involved in the synthesis of collagen, which preserves the tissues that are particularly strained and promotes the recovery of tissues damaged by some sort of trauma.
Glutamine AKG (alpha-ketoglutarate) is used to facilitate the absorption of glutamine because it is able to reach the muscles more quickly and carry out its functions. Glutamine also appears to be relatively stable in aqueous solutions. This is why it is also used in its Acetyl-L-Glutamine form, which is much more stable in water and in gastric pH. It should, therefore, improve absorption as well as the effectiveness of the glutamine.
