IRON+ is a supplement containing iron, vitamin C (Camu camu) and lactoferrin

Iron is an important component as it carries oxygen throughout the body. Its main role is to build haemoglobin and myoglobin, which carry oxygen to muscles and tissues. Haemoglobin is found in erythrocytes (red blood cells) and carries approximately 100% of oxygen. An increased amount of haemoglobin in red blood cells results in increased quantities of oxygen in tissues and muscles. This is critical for those who practice sports on a regular basis. Iron is also contained in the contractile proteins actin and myosin, which are responsible for muscle contraction. Lastly, it is also found in fingernails and hair pigments and is a basic component of many essential enzymes.

The gastric juices in the stomach facilitate iron ion dissociation. With the help of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), these ions are reduced to ferrous ions (Fe2+) increasing absorption by 2-3 times. This product contains Vitamin C obtained from Camu-camu, a Vitamin C-rich shrub growing in Peruvian and Brazilian rainforest. While the amount of Vitamin C in oranges may range from 1000ppm to 4000ppm, Camu-camu contains 50000ppm or 2g of Vitamin C per 100g of fruit. In addition, Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant involved in the production of collagen, which forms the skeleton of tissues such as tendons, cartilage, bones and skin.

Lactoferrin completes the formulation of IRON+. With its high capacity to compete with iron-dependent micro-organisms, it has an antimicrobial activity and a direct action on the outer membrane of Gram negative bacteria. A combination of lactoferrin with ferric ions in mucous secretions modulates the activity of bacteria and viruses towards cell membranes. This is because some bacteria require iron for cell replication, while lactoferrin takes it from the surrounding environment, preventing proliferation. The ability of lactoferrin to bind iron also suggests a possible role as an antioxidant. Taking away excess iron prevents the production of the notorious pro-oxidant effects.


Take up to 2 capsules with water once a day, after meals.
