SHOT PRE MATCH+
SHOT PRE MATCH+ is a food supplement based on carbohydrates, vitamins, caffeine, taurine and mate extract, in practical ready-to-drink vials. The product was formulated and designed for athletes who are preparing to face intense training or important competitions and races. SHOT PRE MATCH+ provides vitamins C, B12 and niacin, which contribute to the normal energy metabolism, the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and magnesium, which supports regular muscle function. Mate extract has an antioxidant and tonic action against physical and mental fatigue, while caffeine helps to increase alertness and improve concentration.
Energy reserves, since they are limited, are subject to depletion during physical activity; if they are not adequately and promptly restored, it can lead to a sudden drop in performance.
SHOT PRE MATCH+ provides 11 g/day of sugar, divided equally between fructose and dextrose. From the chemical point of view, both dextrose and fructose belong to the large family of carbohydrates and are classified as elementary units of monosaccharides (or simple sugars), no longer able to be further broken down by means of hydrolysis. Glucose is the main energy source for our cells, it is thus essential that its concentration in the blood remains constant. Monosaccharides such as glucose and fructose serve to: supply energy in the short term, be quickly assimilated, and require a short digestion period.
SHOT PRE MATCH+ contains also matè extract, a plant native to South America, of which leaves are enriched of polyphenols (including flavonoids), phenolic acids (chlorogenic and caffeic acids), methylxanthines (caffeine) and saponins. On a sporting level, the most interesting activities of matè are:
- tonic and stimulant action: helps fight fatigue, increasing physical energy and a sense of vigour and improves attention;
- antioxidant action: counteracts the action of free radicals, that are produced during physical activity.
Finally SHOT PRE MATCH + is enriched with caffeine and taurine. Caffeine is a liposoluble molecule that belongs to the methylxanthine family. The action of caffeine on an athletic level has been subject to many investigations, and it has been shown that this substance has positive effects in endurance sports - and according to more recent analyses - even in short duration and high intensity exercises. The ergogenic effect of caffeine in endurance activities occurs through direct and indirect action. Direct action is linked to the ability of caffeine to act as a competitive antagonist on the adenosine receptor, by reducing the sensation of perceived fatigue. Indirect action is linked to the ability of caffeine to stimulate the release of catecholamines (adrenaline and noradrenaline). Some studies have shown that caffeine is able to implement cognitive abilities, with an improvement in alertness, attention levels, mental clarity and memory, ability to concentrate and decision-making. It is able to stimulate an increase in the pain threshold and longer period of time before the onset of fatigue.
Taurine is an amino acid derivative that is synthesised by our body in the liver from methionine and cysteine in the presence of vitamin B6. Taurine is found in many areas, including the brain, skeletal and smooth muscle, myocardium, and retina. On a sporting level scientific literature on the use of taurine to improve physical performance is conflicting; some studies have shown that supplementation could be useful for:
- reducing oxidative damage induced by intense exercise;
- increasing cardiac contractility during exercise, allowing better peripheral oxygenation;
- delaying the onset of central fatigue and muscle fatigue.
