HMB+

HMB+ is a food supplement based on ß-hydroxy-ß-methylbutyrate (HMB), a metabolite deriving from the degradation of amino acid leucine, approximately 5%.

HMB use as sport supplement dates back to 1996, when Dr. Nissen demostrated how HMB was useful to increase lean body mass and athletic performance. HMB directly stimulates mTOR which leads to increase protein synthesis. Its main activity is the anti-catabolic one, indeed it is able to contrast muscle proteolysis induced by training, thus preventing the muscle protein degradation.

HMB supplementation can be associated with the leucine one: their combined action could stimulate anabolism since leucine mainly induces protein synthesis, while HMB works i both anti-catabolic and anabolic phases. This allow to have a better result in terms of increasing muscle mass.
